Dashboards

A dashboard shows the results of your jobs as numbers, tables and charts on one page. Widgets read the data the jobs already produced, so a dashboard opens at once and does not query the database. Jobs keep running on their own, by hand or on a schedule; the dashboard shows their latest results.

Dashboards have their own section in the left rail. Press ⌘ 3 to open it. The list shows every dashboard with its number of widgets and jobs.

Make a dashboard from a job

The quickest way starts at a job that already draws charts:

  • In the run report, open the menu of a chart and choose Add to dashboard. Pick an existing dashboard or New dashboard. The page stays where it is, and a notification offers Open.
  • In the job header, click Dashboard. When no dashboard reads the job yet, QueryLane makes one of every chart of the latest run and opens it. When some do, the button becomes Dashboards with their number: it lists them and offers New dashboard from charts.

Charts added this way follow the job: after the next run the widget shows the new chart. A chart that has an id in the chart step stays the same widget even when you reorder the charts.

Build a dashboard by hand

  1. In the Dashboards section, click New dashboard.
  2. Click Edit, then Add widget.
  3. Choose the kind of widget, the Job and the Step with rows it reads.
  4. Set it up and click Done.

Widget kinds:

WidgetShows
NumberOne value: a count, a sum, an average, a minimum or a maximum, with a format, prefix and suffix
TableRows of the step, or grouped rows with values. Without grouping and values it lists the rows as they are
ChartLine, area, bars, pie or scatter over grouped values
Chart of a chart stepA chart that a chart step draws, as it is
TextA heading or a note

For a number, a table or a chart you choose Group by fields (dates group by hour, day, week, month, quarter or year), Values with their aggregate, Conditions on rows, Sort by and a Row limit. Nested fields of documents and API responses are written with dots, for example customer.country.

In edit mode drag a widget to move it and drag its corner to resize it. A widget shows how fresh its data is, for example Run 10 minutes ago, and warns when the last run of its job failed.

Filters and parameters

Open Filters and parameters in edit mode to add controls above the widgets.

  • Filters narrow the stored rows of every widget whose step has the field. A filter is a list of values, a number range or a date range with presets such as Last 30 days. Filters apply at once and run no jobs.
  • Parameters set a job variable for runs from this dashboard, for what changes the query itself, such as a date range wider than the stored data. A new value runs the job in the background with that value, without saving it into the job. Results are kept per set of values, so switching back is instant.

When data updates

When data updates decides what the dashboard does with its jobs:

  • Show the latest runs shows what the jobs produced last and runs nothing.
  • Run jobs on open runs the jobs each time the dashboard opens.
  • Follow new runs picks up new runs, including scheduled ones, while the dashboard is open.

Refresh runs the jobs of the dashboard now with its parameter values. Runs from a dashboard are ordinary runs of the job and appear in its history. The runs a dashboard reads are never removed by trimming or clearing the history.

Save and share

The dashboard menu has:

  • Save as HTML: one page with the charts drawn as images, without scripts or network access, so it opens anywhere;
  • Save as image: a PNG of the whole dashboard;
  • Export to file: a package with the dashboard and the jobs it reads, for another QueryLane.

The saved page and image use the app's language and theme and the current filter and parameter values.

When you export jobs, Include dashboards of these jobs adds the dashboards that read only the exported jobs. On import QueryLane shows for each dashboard whether it replaces an existing one or is added as a copy.

Dashboards and AI

Ask the assistant for a report or metrics and it builds the jobs and the dashboard. After a run that draws charts it may offer a dashboard once: Build dashboard makes it, Not now hides the offer until the job changes. When it has made or changed a dashboard, Open under its reply takes you there.

Agents connected over MCP can list, create, change, refresh and save dashboards too. In Claude Desktop the reply shows an Open in QueryLane button that opens the new dashboard in the app.
