Versions and git

QueryLane keeps a version history for every step. It can also read jobs from a git repository and push jobs to one.

Step version history

A change to a step's name, type, connection, code, dependencies, status, timeout, checks or other settings is saved as a version. Changes made within 3 seconds of each other become one version. Each step keeps its last 25 versions.

  1. In the editor, click the version button on the step card, for example 4 ver.
  2. In Step version history, each entry shows the date, the kind of change (Create, Change or Restore), its source (Manual, AI, Duplicate, Import or Restore) and the changed fields. The diff marks lines removed by that change with - and added lines with +.
  3. Click Restore to return the step to the state it had before that change.

A restore is saved as a version too, so you can undo it the same way.

Restore a deleted step

A job keeps up to 50 deleted steps.

  1. In the editor, click the history icon above the steps (Deleted steps: 2). The icon is shown only when there are deleted steps.
  2. In Deleted steps, find the step by its name and deletion date and click Restore.

The step returns at the end of the job with its version history. Dependencies on steps that no longer exist are removed.

To delete the step versions and deleted steps of all jobs, use Clear step versions in Settings > General > Local data.

Add a git repository

QueryLane runs the git command of your Mac, so git must be installed.

  1. Open Connections. In Git repositories, click Add repository.
  2. Fill in Name, Repo URL, Branch, Author (name) and Author (email).
  3. For a private repository over HTTPS, paste a Personal access token (PAT).
  4. In Task structure, choose where folders, tags and order live: Local, Shared, read-only or Shared, editable.
  5. Click Add. Later you can open the repository and click Test to check access.

QueryLane clones the repository into ~/Library/Application Support/app.querylane.desktop/repos/. Each job is a file jobs/<job-id>.yaml.

Open jobs from a repository

With a repository added, a selector appears at the top of the jobs list. Choose the repository instead of Local jobs. QueryLane pulls the branch and lists its jobs with the short hash of their last commit. Pull from repository fetches new commits and makes the local clone match the remote branch.

A repository job is marked Git · read only. You cannot edit or schedule it in place:

  • Run and Edit locally copy the job into Local jobs with the same id and continue there.
  • Before running a repository job with JavaScript steps, QueryLane asks you to confirm in Run trusted JavaScript. Click Trust and run only if you trust that version of the repository. The answer is remembered for that commit.

Push a job to a repository

  1. Open a local job in the editor.
  2. In Store in, choose the repository instead of Local. The editor shows the repository and the file jobs/<job-id>.yaml.
  3. Edit the job. Jobs with unpushed changes show Changed in the jobs list.
  4. Click Push.

QueryLane commits the job as YAML with the message job(update): <name> (<id>) and pushes. If the remote branch has moved, it takes the remote state, writes your file again and retries, so your version of the file wins.

The file holds the job's name, description, variables and steps. Step versions, schedules and run history stay on your Mac. Variables whose names contain words such as token, key, password or secret are written without values. Use the lock next to any other variable to leave its value out too.

A copy made with Edit locally keeps the job id, so pushing it to the same repository replaces the original file.

Git history of a job

For a job linked to a repository, click Versions in the editor header. Version history lists the last 20 commits of the job's file with Message, Hash, Author and Date. View shows the YAML of a commit. Revert loads that version into the job and pushes it as a new commit.
